Prospects of Virtual Reality

The concept of “virtual reality” has been known for many years, but during this time it seemed to be far, a bit artificial and sci-fi. However nowadays the age of VR-technologies is coming whether wish we or not. VR is a thing of the future that is seeping into our life.

The experts think VR-technologies will influence our life dramatically and change it, as computers and smartphones did back in the day. Recently only gamers have been interested in VR, but it isn’t about gaming only. The analysts forecast VR market growth this year that will affect plenty of industries including  healthcare, design and engineering, education, staff training and many others.

What are the prospects of development and applying VR-technologies in different business and science areas?

Healthcare.

Medical professionals have been developing and implementing VR in ways that can help them train, diagnose, and treat for years now.  VR-technologies are used to reduce pain, in therapy for phobias, anxieties and posttraumatic syndromes.

Over the past couple of decades surgery simulators have been invaluable for physician training that reduces the number of medical errors. In some medical centers the consultation in virtual reality is available.

Design and engineering.

More often VR-technologies are used in engineering complex systems: mostly in auto and aircraft industries, urban planning, complex architectural solutions.

The main benefit of VR is viewing the project in 3D and gaining a greater understanding of how it works – the ability to see the project in real-size, walk along a new building complex, get into a new car or plane. This helps to find defects and reduce the time of matching of maturities.

Education.

The modernization of education has come, and VR-technologies will change the concept of education in the nearest future, since VR is the best educational environment ever. Integration between objects, video conferences and tele bridges; 3D educational materials, presentations; virtual museums, planetariums, lectures, labs  – all this doesn’t seem so far future.

All said above is just a small, but the most prospective part of industries’ diversity where VR technologies could be applied.
