AGAPI Boat Club — how we built a full mobile app for boat sharing (including superior UX!).

Headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, Agapi boat club is a different kind of boat rental service. Drawing on their knowledge of the boat charter industry, its founders envisioned a unique service for their customers. They have truly brought the sharing economy to what is traditionally on offline rental industry.

Background.

Agapi boat club approached us to help them realise their vision, a mobile boat sharing app. A service to choose a boat of your choice from their Agapi fleet via a smartphone or your desktop.

Using the app, Agapi members can simply pick up their boat from one of many destinations throughout Europe. It’s a simple and hassle-free solution. You get all the benefits of boating without the stress of direct ownership.

“We are pleased by Fastdev’s continued commitment to our development,” Peder Asplund, Co-Founder and CEO of Agapi.

Our challenge: An ever-evolving scope.

The scope in brief:

  1. A digital booking platform.
  2. A mobile application for iOS and Android.

Agapi is an ambitious company with global goals. For us, the scope of the project has evolved greatly. Initially, we were involved in building a digital booking platform for small, local boat sharing company.

Local to global.

As the Agapi fleet became international, the complexity of our task increased. We needed to include boat locations and types, as well as all different kinds of memberships. Agapi Boat Club went from being a small local fleet to becoming a global franchise operation. Our project had to broaden its scope accordingly.

Once we had developed the booking platform, we increased the number of Agapi boat club members by 200 percent.

Mobile app development.

Over time the project progressed into a full product delivery.

Product process:

  1. Product Design in Stockholm.
  2. Design approval.
  3. Development with weekly progress meeting.
  4. Launch.
  5. Planning for future launches with more features.

We designed the product, including both UI and UX elements of the mobile app design. Additionally, we also looked to lift the entire brand identity.

What was most exciting and interesting about the project?

As the project evolved, we realised we had to be able to cater to different end customer needs. One customer may want to go out with a specific boat, another wants to go out a specific date, while somebody else justs wants a trip right now.

As there are different types of boats we built in customisable check-lists to make it easier for members to get on board.

Results.

The result is an easy to use mobile app for members while helping Agapi Boat Club manage their fleet.

Ultimately, by providing Agapi Boat Club with a world-leading platform for sharing boats, a mobile app for iOS/Android, we managed to help them stay on course as they pursue their global ambitions and bring enjoyable boating to many more destinations and members.
