Growing across the Nordics

As JAG expanded from Sweden to Norway and Finland, its digital platform had to grow with the organisation.

Each country brought different regulations, languages, payroll requirements, and ways of working. Instead of building separate systems for each market, Fastdev helped JAG develop one flexible platform through scalable custom SaaS development, supporting local differences while sharing the same technical foundation.

Today, the platform supports operations across three Nordic countries, runs on 20+ independent microservices, and automates several complex administrative and financial processes.

Supporting complex operations

JAG is a Nordic non-profit organisation providing personal assistance to people with disabilities. Behind this service is a complex digital operation covering agreements, salaries and budgets, compensation reporting, personal data, and communication between clients and assistants.

The platform needs to handle a wide range of business rules and processes while remaining flexible enough to adapt as JAG’s operations grow.

Key requirements included:

• Complex agreements: Managing digital and physical agreements, signatures, and different agreement flows.
• Flexible salary and budget rules: Supporting individual calculations, exceptions, and country-specific requirements.
• Country-specific requirements: Adapting the same platform to different regulations, languages, payroll systems, and ways of working.
• Payroll and government integrations: Connecting with systems such as AGDA and Försäkringskassan while reducing manual reporting.
• Easy configuration: Allowing JAG to adjust features, languages, and business rules without relying on developers for every change.
• Scalability: Adding new functionality and supporting growth without making the platform increasingly difficult to maintain.

Building a scalable microservices platform

Fastdev worked closely with JAG to build a microservices-based platform that combines shared functionality with country-specific flexibility.

Key parts of the work included:

• Microservices architecture: 20+ independent services running in Azure and Kubernetes, making the platform easier to scale, update, and maintain.
• Flexible salary and budget rules: A custom DSL allows complex calculations and business rules to be adjusted without changing application code.
• Payroll and government integrations: Integrations with AGDA and Försäkringskassan reduce manual work and speed up compensation reporting.
• Country-specific functionality: Feature flags and editable localisation make it possible to adapt functionality and languages for different markets.
• Workflow automation: Guided processes simplify complex routines such as wage revisions, agreements, reminders, and approvals.
• Secure access and data: BankID, Azure AD, and SPAR integrations provide secure access and help keep user information up to date.
• Web and mobile access: A responsive web platform, mobile app, and notifications via SMS, email, and in-app messages keep clients and staff connected.
